Tour starts next week!

The past month has been intense in many ways and I can’t quite believe that in 15 days I’ll finally be flying to the US to start my tour on the very day of the album release: as usual, you wait and wait for something, and then when it’s about to happen, it almost doesn’t feel quite real… which is part of the theme of this album!
Today you can listen to the suite of 3 movements that closes the album, “Night looping”, a homage to insomnia, to laying in bed at night and thinking in loops about the best and the worst that could happen to you, or that may already have happened to you…

I hope you will enjoy this video of the second movement, which I shot in the sleepy presence of my beloved Sol one week ago. Technical explanations are in the subtitles of the video, and as usual, I’ll be happy to reply to any question you may have! As with the whole album, this song uses only one synth, the Moog Grandmother, and one delay, in this case the Moogerfooger MF-104M. Nothing else, and no digital production involved.

I love that in these videos you get to see up close how I recorded the music on the album, but also how I will play it live! On tour I will play the whole album, 1 hour, 21 movements, and I really can’t wait for the pleasure and the challenge of it. All dates are in my Songkick or on my website.
This video also gives me the opportunity to tell you I am launching my own YOUTUBE CHANNEL: no, I’m not going to have the time to create a lot of “content” there, but yes, I really wanted to host the video content I’ve created over the years on a platform that’s less volatile than Instagram and that lets you see the content on a full screen.
Last but not least, I am thrilled to tell you there is a Bandcamp listening party of Le jour on 17th September 1:00 PM CDT: we listen to the album, followed by a Q&A, in which I’ll be super happy to reply to your questions (including the tech stuff, OF COURSE). I haven’t posted about this here directly, so it’s about time I did, so that hopefully the message will reach more people.

Back in July, I spontaneously decided to give the money I received for the first month of sales of the song I created as part of betatesting the Moogerfooger plugins last year. That song is called “Conditional” and it’s a Bandcamp exclusive.

I also spontaneously decided I would do this in perpetuity, and that I would donate 100% of what you pay, not what I receive (which, with Bandcamp commission and Paypal processing fee, is typically around 18-20% less).

I have been floored by the reaction, and so far these are the results:

9 July 2023: 126$ sent to Peluditos con mucho amor, Fresno, Colombia – dog shelter.

4 August 2023: 100$ sent to Fundacion Trifolium, Casteldefells, Spain – dog and cat shelter.

– 1 September 2023: 407.18$ to Sirius Shelter, Animal Rescue Kharkiv and Shelter Friend Ukraine – all based in Ukraine – shelter and animal rescue initiatives.

TOTAL COLLECTED AT 31 August 2023: 633.53$

SEPTEMBER MONTH DONATIONS WILL ALSO GO TO ORGANIZATIONS HELPING ANIMALS IN UKRAINE.

Images speak louder than words. These incredibly moving pictures of a dog being rescued from flood waters are by Animal Rescue Kharkiv.

Those of you who have followed me for a while know that for the past few years, I wasn’t able to tour as much as I wanted to due to a chronic health issue that wasn’t treated properly when first diagnosed (Hashimoto’s disease, a common form of autoimmune hypothyroidism, which I thankfully now have pretty much under control). Then in 2021, at the height of unsustainable chronic stress, I decided to stop playing live shows, thinking this would be a radical way of getting rid of some of my stress. It was, so much so that a mere couple of months later, I regained the desire to play live again.

I feel that right now is the moment I really must give this a go, since life does have a way of throwing health spanners in our works as we age, so this is exactly what I am about to do, and with so much joy too!
If all goes well this is just the start, with many more dates in Europe and elsewhere in spring 2024! In the spirit of avoiding a situation where some of you may decide to travel to see me play, only to find out a few months later that I’m going to play in your country, I’m going to indicate the European shows that should happen in all likelihood in 2024 (90% chance) .

OK, it’s just a celebration I had by myself, but it still counts and I just had to do this silly ceremony of putting all the vinyl in the studio where I made the album. These arrived yesterday and honestly, they floored me: they are by far the most beautiful embodiment of my music ever… Thick spine, gatefold, reverse board, full color inner sleeves, gold and silver vinyl for our special edition on the Thrill Jockey webshop (ships from the US or Berlin) or my Bandcamp (ships from US only), clear with gold vinyl for shops (as well as regular black), with the stunning artwork of @gomez_servin_andres and the stellar layout of @dnks_mx . I am also very happy with the extra texture that comes from Andrés’s cyanotypes being printed larger than original size, it looks almost closer to fabric than to paper. We are now 2 months away from the release of the album @thrilljockey , which is also bang on the day that I start my US tour (Friday 22nd September, NYC @publicrecordsnyc ), and I cannot wait for you to have these in your hands.
The song I put on this reel is one of the shorter tracks on the album and it just gives me so much joy, it’s probably the bounciest thing I’ve ever done!
